Development of GTS Energis' Data Centre in Piaseczno
Warsaw, October 4, 2007
A power supply development project got underway in early October 2007 in one of Europe's biggest and most modern Data Centres located in Piaseczno and owned by GTS Energis. Establishment of another energy terminal of the capacity of 2*2.2 MW will enable adaptation of 700m2 of storage space for co-location purposes. The cost of carrying out the project is assessed at PLN 1.5 million. Completion of the investment has been planned for April 2008.
"The Data Centre in Piaseczno near Warsaw is an investment which is a model technological solution", says Rafa³ Budweil, Vice Chairman for Operations, GTS Energis. "Its development means being able to meet the expectations of our clients as well as adjusting to requirements of the Polish market which has seen development of services related to leasing out developed land for servers supplied by customers."
The service of co-location encompasses the client's application servers which are available through the telecommunications network or the Internet, while GTS Energis enables their connection to appropriate infrastructure of the Data Centre environment. In the computer room, single racks, entire cabinets as well as indicated spaces with their necessary equipment are all subject to co-location lease. The co-location services offered by the company support both the available corporate software as well as operational systems supplied (indicated) by the user.
Information on the Data Centre The Data Centre encompasses the area of 5,000m2 and is divided into an operational section as well as an administration-and-office part. The operational section is fitted for connecting servers for clients. The temperature of the entire area is maintained at a fixed level. The air-conditioning system was constructed basing on the N+1 principle and meets the recommendations drawn up by ASHRAE, i.e. the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, Air-conditioning Engineers. The air is forced in through telecommunication engineering floor and having cooled the equipment it goes back overhead to air-conditioning units. The Centre is equipped with a state-of-the-art fire-prevention system. Early detection systems constantly monitor all rooms and each event is signaled to the officer on duty. The extinguishing action starts automatically. If machines fail to respond, it is manually initiated by an authorized employee. When fire breaks out, electronically-operated valves force-in a precisely calculated amount of gas into the room in which the fire was detected. Inergen, an ecological and safe for human beings gas is used to extinguish the fire.
Continuance of operations of all equipment is guaranteed by a special power supply system based on two independent mains terminals, the Centre’s own trafo station as well as redundant UPS systems. Each is them is able to support the operation of 2,000 servers for 5 hours. In addition, the Data Centre is equipped with three combustion power generators capable of supporting its operations for 72 hours with no fuel refills. Should the need arise, an external generator remains easy to connect. All server cabinets are equipped with basic and reserve power supplies which guarantee uninterrupted work of clients' installations.
Connection to GTS Energis' network and consequently to the Polish and worldwide internet is based on two independent lines fed to two extreme ends of the building.
The Data Centre also hosts a tape library which contains back-up copies of all managed servers. The system allows for their fully automatic backup and fast access to the extra copies. The robot's arm is able to service a silos of 6,000 tapes of 20GB each, i.e. the total capacity of 120TB (terabytes), therefore providing room for backup copies of several thousand servers.
Access to all rooms requires authorization (magnetic cards) and is fully monitored as well as recorded. Such a vast number of electronic, mechanical and access security measures guarantees the best possible conditions for internet servers.
The Backup Office is located in GTS Energis' Data Centre. The fully fitted office space remains available for clients in case of a disaster in their headquarters.
Owing to the complex offer which includes services provided by the Data Centre, data and voice transmission as well as the backup office, it is possible to provide clients with disaster recovery solutions. GTS Energis is the only supplier of such services in Poland and a worldwide leader with this respect.
