GTS Central Europe continues its data center expansion

Warsaw, March 17, 2010
GTS Central Europe (GTS CE), a leading telecommunications operator in the CEE region has announced the expansions plans in its data center infrastructure after the success achieved in this area during 2009. GTS CE’s data centers are based in the largest cities of the countries in which the company is present: the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Romania.

In January 2010, GTS CE announced the completion of the expansion of its data center located in Piaseczno, near Warsaw, Poland. The space available at this cutting-edge facility was doubled, making it one of the largest in central and eastern Europe. Other recent data center developments include the opening of a new data center in Brno in the Czech Republic (October 2009), while the expansion of the data center in Romania has been recently completed.

In 2010 GTS CE plans to continue its data center expansions; the first half of the year should see the building of an additional 500 square meters at the Piaseczno Data Center and the opening in April of a new facility in Prague with a surface area totalling 700 square meters.

The company currently has nine data centers in central and eastern Europe, giving a total available area for equipment of more than 6 000 square meters and the capacity for more than 10 000 servers. This makes GTS CE one of the largest providers of data centers in the CEE region.

“We are one of the few alternative telecom operators in the region which offers commercial data center services to its customers,” says Ignacio Irurita, CTO at GTS CE. “Looking at the increasing demand for data storage in the CEE region we decided to be responsive to our customers’ needs. The investments we have made in our facilities enable us to offer our customers more capacity and, as a result, give GTS CE a competitive advantage in the data center market of central and eastern Europe.”

GTS CE’s data centers utilize up to date technologies, including emergency power supply (UPS, back-up batteries, diesel generator), air-conditioning with continuously monitored temperature and humidity, fire protection systems and secure access-evidence systems. The majority of GTS’s data centers achieve a Tier 3/4 class rating.

All of GTS CE’s data centers give companies direct access to their server infrastructure with an internet fibre backbone backup system. This fully backed-up optical network offers a speed of 10 Gbit/s between primary junctions. The international connectivity of 2 x 10 Gbit/s and 2 x 2.5 Gbit/s is provided by two independent providers for GTS CE data links in two locations: Frankfurt and Vienna.

The data center product portfolio includes: server hosting (managed and unmanaged), co-location (space, racks, environment), security and storage (Firewalls, IDS, storage), business continuity solutions and applications, such as database management, managed e-mail/MS exchange, storage, and backups.
