GTS Central Europe data center expansion continues with recent facility opening in Prague
Prague, August 12, 2010
GTS Central Europe (GTS), a leading
infrastructure-based telecommunications operator in Central and Eastern
Europe (CEE), recently opened a new data center in Prague, Czech
Republic. The opening of the new data center, with total area of 720
square meters (sqm) is a direct response to GTS’s growing customer
demand for co-location/housing and hosting services. GTS’s growing data
center portfolio throughout the CEE region complements the Company’s
extensive regional and metro fibre network, which interconnects all data
center locations.
The opening of this new facility in Prague aligns with recent purchases of Datek, in Romania, and Interware, in Hungary, which focus on data center services. GTS now operates ten (10) data centers throughout the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Romania, making the Company one of the largest data center providers in the CEE region. Since the facilities are interconnected via the GTS fiber infrastructure, customers have the flexibility to utilise data center services across facilities such as remote back-up.
"We are the only telecom operator having its own data centers across multiple countries in the CEE region. In order to address our customers’ evolving requirements we are making significant investments in expanding our data center co-location real estate and augmenting our data center product portfolio. We are happy to announce that Tesco will be the first customer in our new facility in Prague." said Adam Sawicki, Group CEO at GTS.
"For many years we have used GTS’s housing and network services. GTS’s secure data center and connectivity services are absolutely crucial for our business, as any breakdown in our servers is instantly reflected in the services that we offer our customers. GTS’s focus on high-quality offerings and customer service encouraged Tesco Stores to co-locate in the newly opened data center in Prague," said Jan Trhoň, Head of IT Service for Central Europe, Tesco Stores Czech Republic.
Physical security and operational accessibility are pivotal for data center customers, thus each GTS data center is equipped with the latest physical security equipment including secure chip cards for entry, fire security doors, 24/7 facility monitoring and lockable cabinets/racks. Furthermore, facility uptime is critical, in the event of commercial power disruption, GTS has equipped each data center with uninterruptable power systems (UPS) - battery strings for short-term and diesel generators for longer-term power disruptions. The majority of GTS’s data centers achieve a Tier 3/4 class rating.
The latest data center in the Czech Republic provides the infrastructure for up to 180 cabinets/racks and is equipped with the latest technologies and equipment including a security card access system with biometric fingerprint reader.
The data center product portfolio includes: server hosting (managed and unmanaged), co-location (space, racks, environment), security and storage (Firewalls, IDS, storage), disaster recovery/business continuity solutions and managed applications (database management, managed e-mail/MS exchange, backups). Furthermore, GTS’s extensive metro and international fiber network provides co-location customers with numerous connectivity/network capacity options from the GTS data centers.
