GTS Novera is going to operate a metropolitan network in Valasske Mezirici

Prague, February 28, 2007
GTS Novera, a nationwide operator, and the company Josef Barton - Rex entered last Friday into a contract with the City of Valasske Mezirici upon which they will operate the metropolitan data network. A consortium of these companies won the public tender organized by the city administration. The metropolitan network is to interconnect sites of the local government and institutions and serve the business subject as well. The citizens will be offered an access to a broadband Internet. Twenty publicly accessible Internet information stalls will be a part of the network. GTS Novera pursues its successful cooperation with local governments. It has already put into operations, or develops, similar metropolitan networks in some other cities, namely Plzen, Bilina or Vsetin and Uhersky Brod.

Valasské Mezirici's metropolitan network will cover the area of Valaske Mezirici including its suburbs. The optic-fiber infrastructure will be installed at 170 sites; a wireless technology will be installed in all remaining parts of the city area. The network is comprised of 23 km optic-fiber cables. Almost CZK 13 million out of the total development costs of almost CZK 15 million will be funded by EU funds. Upon winning the pertinent public tender the consortium GTS Novera and Josef Barton - Rex has leased the network from the city for five years.

"A completion of the metropolitan network is planned for the end of April when it is to be put into operations. We will offer high-quality telecommunication services as well as a broadband Internet connectivity to the local government and various institutions as well as business subjects and citizens," said Mr. Tomas Budnik, Director of GTS Novera's commercial division, and added: "As for the metropolitan networks we have already gained a lot of experiences. Recently, we have developed and put into operations a similar data network in Vsetin."

"Citizens and institutions, which will be connected by the optic fibers within the frame of our metropolitan network, will be able to connect to the broadband internet for a good price. Moreover, twenty Internet information stalls will be located at city's public buildings. Much of the city shall be covered by wireless WiFi network as well," stated Mr. Vlastislav Navratil, councilor of Valasske Mezirici.

This project represents another successful cooperation between GTS Novera and the local governments. This operator has already operated similar networks in other cities in the Czech Republic, namely Plzen, Bilina or Vsetin and Uhersky Brod. All of the above-mentioned networks have a few things in common - all of them provide a data and voice interconnection of individual metropolitan institutions, help the city administrations to save significantly on their telecommunication costs and improve an accessibility of Internet connectivity to the public.

The latest similar project is a development of the metropolitan network in Vsetin that GTS Novera completed last November and put it into full operations as of this January. The City of Vsetin acquired a modern metropolitan network thanks to which the access of individual metropolitan subjects to the central municipal information system could improve significantly. Access to a broadband Internet and installation of Internet information stalls in public buildings and schools was also a part of this project.
