GTS Novera launched a metropolitan network in Vsetín

Prague, January 24, 2007
GTS Novera, Czech subsidiary of GTS CE announced to commence live operations of Vsetín's metropolitan data network. The network was developed last year upon winning the pertinent public tender invited by the city authorities. The metropolitan network interconnected various authorities, institutions receiving contributions from the State budget and schools within the city. Simultaneously, the citizens of Vsetín were provided with a wireless access to the broadband Internet. Eleven Internet information booths located in various public buildings and schools are a part of the new network as well.

"Besides the interconnection of municipal subjects Vsetín's metropolitan network provides an access to a broadband Internet to citizens of Vsetín," said Mr. Tomás Budník, a director of the GTS Novera's commercial division, and added: "As the operator of this network we are going to offer within it a number of telecommunication services to both city institutions and end-users. I believe that the network will help to spread the use of broadband Internet among the citizens of Vsetín."

"The City of Vsetín has acquired a modern wireless municipal network interconnecting local administration authorities, institutions and schools. Thanks to such solution we, i.e. the city, were able to reduce our telecommunication costs as well," proclaimed Mr. Lubomír Gajdusek, Vsetín's deputy mayor, and added: "Internet information booths developed will help both citizens and visitors of Vsetín e.g. to seek for information within the cultural, sports or tourism areas."

GTS Novera developed the Vsetín's metropolitan network last year; the city officials accepted it last October. A configuration of individual services followed up. The network was put into live operations as of January 2007. 75% of the total costs amounting to CZK 7.5 million were covered by European funds while 10% of these costs were covered by the State Budget. Upon winning the pertinent public tender GTS became the network operator as well.

Vsetín's metropolitan network is a fully wireless one. It covers the entire territory of Vsetín including its outskirts Sychrov, Trávníky, Ohrada, Rybníky, Luh, Rokytnice and Jasenka. The interconnection of local authorities, institutions and schools has been realized within the 10.5 MHz frequency band ensuring high transmission rates and secure connection and within the licensed (allocated) 3.5 MHz frequency band through the WiMax technology. An unlicensed 2.4 MHz frequency band a.k.a. WiFi was used for the connection of end-users in order to make the access easier and more financially affordable.
